[Naming in Chinese] SUBWAY, "stuff," "hundred," "flavors."

Updated: Jun 25, 2024

The Chinese name for SUBWAY, the American sandwich chain is “赛 百 味” (pronounced Sai-Bai-Wei).

The first character “赛" (Sai) means "to stuff."

The second character "百" (Bai) means "hundred."

The last character "味" (Wei) mens "flavors."

The choice of these 3 Chinese characters is quite appropriate both because (1) it is phonetically similar, and (2) it accurately describes the customer experience of being able to choose from a wide variety of ingredients for SUBWAY's staff to "stuff" into their sandwich.
